Privacy and cookie policy
This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use ansr.ai and Chat (chat.ansr.ai), why we collect it, the legal grounds we rely on, and the choices and rights you have. Our cookie policy is part of this document. We keep it plain and honest.
1. Who is responsible
The data controller is Answers Instantly Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17247213) with its registered office at 2 Leman Street, London, E1W 9US. We process personal data under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018). Contact: support@ansr.ai.
2. What we collect
- Account data: your email address and sign-in activity.
- Chat content: your messages, attached files and the responses and images generated for you. We store these so your history works across devices.
- Billing data: subscription status and invoice history. Card details go directly to Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
- Usage data: counts of messages and images, device and browser information, IP address, and pages visited. Used for limits, abuse prevention, reliability and product analytics.
- Support data: emails you send to support@ansr.ai and our replies.
- Advertising data (only with your consent): ad click identifiers and conversion events, shared with Google and Meta to measure our advertising.
3. Why we use it and our lawful bases
UK data protection law requires a lawful basis for each use of your data. Ours are:
- Performing our contract with you: providing the chat service, storing your history, taking payment, sending service emails such as sign-in links and trial reminders, and answering support requests.
- Legitimate interests: keeping the service secure, enforcing fair-use limits, preventing abuse, debugging, and understanding how the product is used so we can improve it. We balance these interests against your rights, and you can object (see section 7).
- Consent: advertising cookies and measurement (Google and Meta). These run only if you accept them in the consent banner, and you can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation: keeping billing and tax records, and responding to lawful requests from authorities.
We do not sell your data. We do not use your conversations to train AI models.
4. Who processes it for us
We use a small set of service providers, each only for the purpose listed and under a contract that restricts what they can do with your data:
- Vercel: hosting and file storage
- Neon: database
- Anthropic: the Claude model that generates responses, accessed through Vercel's AI Gateway
- Black Forest Labs: image generation
- Stripe: payments and subscription management
- Resend: transactional email (sign-in links, billing emails)
- PostHog: product analytics
- Google and Meta: advertising measurement, only after consent
5. International transfers
Some of these providers are based in, or store data in, the United States. Where your data leaves the UK, we rely on safeguards recognised under UK law: the UK extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified, or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum to the EU standard contractual clauses in the provider's data processing terms. You can ask us for more detail about the safeguard used for a particular provider.
6. How long we keep data
- Account, chats and files: kept while your account exists. If you delete a chat, it is removed from your history and deleted from our database. If you delete your account, we delete your data as described in section 7.
- Billing records: kept for 6 years after the tax year they relate to, as UK tax law requires.
- Server logs: kept for a short period (typically up to 30 days) for security and debugging.
- Support emails: kept for up to 2 years so we have context if you contact us again.
- Consent choice: stored for 6 months, after which we ask again.
7. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- access a copy of your personal data
- correct inaccurate data
- have your data deleted
- receive your data in a portable format
- object to processing based on legitimate interests, and object at any time to direct marketing
- restrict processing in certain circumstances
- withdraw consent at any time where consent is the basis (this does not affect processing that already happened)
Email support@ansr.ai and we will handle your request personally, normally within one month. Deleting your account removes your chats, files and account data from our systems and deletes your customer record in Stripe, except for invoice records we must keep for tax purposes.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the chance to address your concern first, but you can go to the ICO at any time.
8. Security
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest with our hosting and database providers. Access to production systems is limited to the people who run the service. Card data never touches our systems; it goes directly to Stripe, a PCI DSS certified payment provider. No system is perfectly secure, so if a breach ever puts your rights at risk we will tell you and the ICO as the law requires.
9. Children
The service is not directed at children and you must be at least 18 to subscribe. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has given us personal data, email support@ansr.ai and we will delete it.
10. Automated decision-making
Chat generates responses automatically, but we do not make decisions about you with legal or similarly significant effects based solely on automated processing.
11. Cookie policy
This section is our cookie policy under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR). We use a deliberately small set of cookies and similar technologies.
Essential cookies (always on)
These load for everyone because the service does not work without them, and PECR does not require consent for them:
- Sign-in session: keeps you signed in to Chat.
- Anonymous session: tracks the one free message for visitors without an account.
- Consent choice: remembers whether you accepted or rejected non-essential cookies, for 6 months.
Analytics
We use PostHog to understand how the product is used. Before you make a consent choice, it runs without cookies and without identifying you. Cookie-based analytics run only if you accept.
Advertising (only with consent)
If you accept marketing cookies, Google (GA4 and Google Ads) and Meta (the Meta pixel) set cookies so we can measure whether our advertising works, including matching conversions to ad clicks. If you reject them, these tags do not load at all and no advertising cookies are set.
Managing your choice
The consent banner appears on your first visit, and your choice is stored for 6 months, after which we ask again. You can also clear cookies in your browser at any time, which resets the banner. Most browsers let you block cookies entirely, but blocking essential cookies will stop sign-in from working.
12. Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will email account holders before the change takes effect. The date at the top shows the latest version.
